Average Temps

27 Days!

So the countdown begins...

Hard to believe in less than a month, I will be in Spain. I have been accepted to teach English in a small town named Rubiá in Galicia. Galicia is in the northwestern part of Spain, bordering Portugal and Castilla y LeónGalicia is known for its white wine, seafood, green landscape, and untouched natural beauty. This comunidad autónoma  (autonomous community, similiar to a US state) is unique in that it has two official languages, Castellano (Spanish) and Gallego (a unique language similar to Spanish and Portuguese).

My friend Amanda will also be teaching in Galicia with me. She has been accepted to teach in O Barco de Valdeorras, a larger town about three miles away from Rubiá. We are fortunate to be in a less touristy area, because we will be able to (hopefully) quickly develop/ improve our Spanish-speaking skills because English is not widely spoken in this area.

The climate of Galicia is temperate and rainy. It won't get nearly as cold as Wisconsin, but it'll be much rainier than I'm used to. I have been doing some research on the region, and one of its specialities is pulpo a la gallega, or Galician-style octopus. We'll see if I have the courage to try that!

Will continue with more updates soon!
